What Will Happen With The No Contact Parents?
The classic story Like Water For Chocolate, viewed through a modern lens, is a tale about a narcissist mother and her empath daughter.
The youngest daughter Tita cannot be wed, because she is meant to be her mother’s caregiver. Instead, she has an affair with her love Pedro, and her passion creates magic in her cooking.
If this character had TikTok today, she would probably ditch her mother, go no contact, work on her mental health, and marry whomever she pleased.
I’m not saying that’s bad, but it raises the question people are starting to ask:
So, uh, what will happen with the no contact parents?
As this book and movie pointed out, kids are expected to take care of aging parents…especially kids without children (“pro-natalists” should note that even this “traditional” way of life requires that some people not have kids in order to take care of the elderly or otherwise infirm, but that’s a topic for another day).
However, as we focus on our own health, we go no contact with these toxic parents instead of developing magical cooking skills and having covert affairs with our sister’s husband.
