These Geniuses Stole Our Boys
Taking a look around the web and all I can think, even though I’m not a mother:
These “geniuses” stole our boys.
Look at how they’re defending them, worshipping them, no matter what they do.
Look how they idolize strangers and grant them excuse after excuse, defend them instead of defending their mothers, queer cousins, and diverse friends. Look how they are putting themselves on such a grand display…for someone who doesn’t know they exist.
As a woman who has dated men and placed too much on them, I want to say to them: He will not save you. He will not live up to the potential you’ve imagined for him, so stop pouring your own potential into his pot. Stop being energy he uses, stop being validation and justification. It ends with you depleted, and you have your own life to live.
These geniuses stole our boys with lies: They don’t seem to be geniuses after all, but they were armed with social proof, magazine covers. These geniuses stole our boys with excuses: When their grandiose visions don’t turn out, everyone else is to blame. These geniuses stole our boys with delays: Just give more — more faith, more time. Just keep giving. The doomsday date is pushed back yet again.
