Daryl had been to The Divide earlier that week. She got the perfect video: Makeup done, hair flipped in slow motion, steam turning to water and raining down on her. Her face was elated. Like she’d had an orgasm.
Whatever that was.
Her phone vibrated. It never rang. The ringing caused her anxiety. Only bill collectors and the government ever called.
Or scammers.
It was Kerry. She wanted to video chat. Darryl raised the phone up so she wouldn’t see her double chin.
“Hey girl.”
“What’s up?”
“Nothing. That video I made came out great.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Divide?”
“Yeah.”
Kerry was eating cereal. She munched for a bit. Darryl started looking on her laptop for something to watch.
“What are you up to?” Kerry finally asked after she had eaten all her cereal.
“Looking for something good to watch when I get my streaming back.”
“Shit, you broke broke.”
“Yeah. I have to wait two more days before I can stream video again.”
