The internet was buzzing over how “divisive” politics could be when “Love Is Blind”’s Sara left Ben at the altar.

Of course, there are those who ask how a woman could let politics separate her from the love of her life.

My response is, someone with views that different from yours is not the love of your life.

And what’s more:

Women don’t wanna balance out your politics in a marriage.

What do I mean by this? I’ve seen it both in real life and TV. A woman spends so much of her time and energy trying to get her husband to have empathy, to accept gay relatives, to spend time giving back to the community…She exists to “balance” him out.

This is usually seen as sweet, or like a perfect couple scenario. They complete one another.

It’s not. Older women had to do it if they wanted a bank account or a family. You have to play nice and barnacle yourself to a man with shitty views to try to get what you want. This still happens with younger women when they’re in a disadvantaged situation.

When women don’t have to do this, they don’t want to.
