I just wish I got a heads up when people couldn’t pay me.

And by people, I mean companies.

For those in the Medium Partner Program, you might have noticed that you didn’t get paid on time. I haven’t been paid yet, and Medium usually pays out by the eighth.

There is a notice in the Help section.

I’ve had problems getting paid from jobs, from side hustles, etc. Hey, I’m a writer. I’m usually freelance. Paying me is not a top priority. I know that.

Am I bullying myself by admitting that? Am I lowering my standards by admitting that? Am I just accepting reality? Is accepting reality a lowering of standards?

Anyway, I’m not particularly mad. It is not, however, a great sign. Little alarm bells are going off in my mind. Is it time to find a new way to monetize?

As a writer, though, I do rely on every source of income I have. What always does frustrate me is every time I fail to get paid, I’m never warned.

There’s no hey! Payments might be a day or two late! It’s always just…the date comes and goes. That’s how it always is. And, you know, I could use the heads up. I have some things on Autopay. I have student loans. I try to schedule things. It would be nice if, when someone knew they couldn’t pay me on time, they could…tell me. Then I could reschedule…
