It’s never enough for the internet, so don’t try

Many writers and content creators know there is a deluge of advice out there.

Create a class. A podcast. Get on Twitter. Twitter is dead. You aren’t using Instagram? Promote your book on TikTok! A 16-year-old made a million bucks selling her book on TikTok. What is wrong with you?!

Patreon. Goodreads. I even see Tumblr being thrown around still.

All of this drowning can threaten to destroy all the fun. I got into this to write, not to endlessly market. And let’s be real: Chasing trends is a losing game. If you are just chasing trends, you’re lost with nothing to ground you.

And I don’t wanna be lost on the internet. I don’t want to lose my passion for writing because I’m chasing the latest marketing strategy. I need to focus so that my life is full of things I actually want to do.

  1. What do I want to do, out of the things that work? I like the idea of having classes and workshops, but not productivity types…more like practical advice on editing, writing, and blogging. Spewing toxic positivity is not something I’m interested in. Telling people they just need to work harder is not something I’m interested in. But I do enjoy editing.
