And What is Good for Me

A poem

I have to do what is good for me
and what is good for me is to have my head on your chest
and hear it rise and fall like a barrel in the sea.

I have to do what is good for me
and what is good for me is the ocean, the heat, the sand
and glimpses of your smile between rays of sun.

I have to do what is good for me
and what is good for me is whatever is good for you —

It is, probably, misguided for me to want your baby, probably an
overall bad idea
if we are speaking rationally.

But I have to do what is good for me
and what is good for me is to have all of my energy
from the base of my spine up to my head
slinking around, moving like a hot white snake
coming out as a kind of soul roar.

But I have to do what is good for me
and what is good for me is the tingle of music
threatening to expose the universe
with each beat.

I have to do what is good for me
and what is good for me is the sound of my name
in your mouth,
as a whisper, almost a prayer.
